Death Valley is a deep scar in the earth along the California-Nevada border. Its lowest elevation is below sea level (-282 feet) and its valley walls reach over 11,000 feet above sea level. It is also one of the hottest places on Earth, holding the world record at 134 degrees F set in 1913. It is part of the Mojave Desert and receives about 2 inches of rain per year.
Death Valley is a photographer’s paradise. In addition to the valley itself, there are relics of old mining operations, large salt flats and spectacularly colored rocks.
